Message for World Down Syndrome Day 2025: Improve our support systems!
The purpose of this day is to provide information to society about people with Down syndrome, to protect their rights, to contribute to breaking existing stereotypes and to establish them as full-fledged citizens.
‘Down syndrome was first described by English physician John Down in the late 19th century, which is why it was called ‘Down syndrome’. Down syndrome is a human genetic disorder in which all cells have 47 chromosomes instead of 46.This is its natural state, so Down syndrome is not a disease.
One of the symbols of Down Syndrome Day is a colourful sock that looks like a chromosome.
It is important to once again show our kindness, support and love for people with Down syndrome as full members of society.
